Disgusted
Mel Gibson: Not relevant.
War in the Middle East: Too relevant.
Mel: A joke.
War: The exact opposite of a joke.
Mel: Will do the Contrition Dance and mend his ruined reputation.
Lebanon: Will be ruined for years to come.
Mel: Another celebrity asshole that the media tells us we should care about.
War: A cataclismic event that the media will gloss over and then lose interest in.
Mel: We don't need this kind of misdirection.
War: We don't need this kind of destruction. There are enough natural disasters to fight against without making the artificial kind. My heart breaks for all the people who have been caught in the middle. People who just wanted to go to work and raise a family.

Amen! I can't believe the hype about Gibson while people are being killed everywhere... And it looks like we read each other's minds today: Gibson Mystery
I agree 100% with this, the media should be ashmed of itself for selling us stories of some stars drunken highlights when there is a war out there that almost never gets adequate representation in the news...and when it does get spoken about it always makes Lebanon look like sh*t.
I am all for fair representation and a good sober look at the world we live in today...which we have to search high n low for until we find some real 'unbiased' answers. It really sux what media and television has become, a way to drown out the rest of the world.

Celebrity worship is one of the most annoying things that television programs push onto people. Sad thing is, people start to think it IS important and start subscribing to People magazine and the like. What a sad life that must be.
Being a journalist myself, I couldn't agree with you more. This should be posted in every household.
But a part of this too is the kind of shit that has the highest ratings on TV (Entertainment Tonight, for example) and sells all those People Magazines and other crap is just this kind of drivel.
Why do so many millions of people care more about Mel and his latest screwup than Lebanon or Iraq or Afghanistan or The Congo?
That crap sells. A war doesn't.
Brilliant post.
All I really have to say is Amen and I see SH beat me to it -
great post...very well compared.
