A short story by Ambrose Bierce
King Log and King Stork
THE People being dissatisfied with a Democratic Legislature, which stole no more than they had, elected a Republican one, which not only stole all they had but exacted a promissory note for the balance due, secured by a mortgage upon their hope of death.
-THE END-
-THE END-
A Short Story by Mitt Romney:
"The blame, we must admit, does not belong to just one party. If we’re going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order.
We can’t be like Democrats – a party of big spending. We can’t pretend our borders are secure from illegal immigration. We can’t have ethical standards that are a punch-line for Jay Leno.
When Republicans act like Democrats, America loses.
It’s time for Republicans to start acting like Republicans. We have to remember who we are: We are not Big Government Republicans. We are not Washington Republicans. We are Change Washington Republicans. Democrats are not the change Washington needs. We are the change Washington needs and it’s time for Republicans like us to stand for that change again.

Ambrose Bierce disappeared in the Mexican desert in 1913. The Reagan Administration signed off on the first trillion-dollar budget. This has been going on for a long time folks. As far as I can tell, the Bush Administration has been acting like Republicans and it's time for Republicans to stop acting like Republicans. The Republicans are very good at blaming the Democrats, and vice versa.
Democrats: Tax and Spend.
Republicans: Borrow and Spend.
Any questions?

Well, I see the point as being the only democracy worth it's salt would be one that really represents THE people in principle.
Although, the responsibility of THE people is to uphold their own noble principles of democracy.
But, first they have to understand the scope of those principles... Unfortunately, those are philosophical concepts that are ignored because of overriding religious precepts that appeal to immature mindsets. AKA Mitt Romney
As I see it, the erosion of civil liberties is the biggest threat to equitable government. This almost always takes place when some special interest has convinced some group of well-meaning but duped people that: a) it's for their own good, and b) those who don't agree are "them", not "us".
"Those who would give up essential liberties for a little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin
