God's Song (Randy Newman) - The Truth
Because it keeps making so much sense. Selling this stuff makes people rich. Selling this stuff makes people powerful. Selling this stuff causes wars, and builds nations.
Selling this stuff does not make it true.

Good Ole Randy eh? I remember getting the album that had Short People...I thought that sarcasm and jazz made a wonderful combo.
There was another song about beating up Gays..with cute little chicken shit boots on..and I recall thinking that one day they would lynch Mr Newman...but lo and behold he has gone on to win Oscars and be a Hollywood darling?
Only in America.
When presented with the evidence I love the verse that says if you won't protect us will you atleast let us be....Lennon would have loved that..
Let us be
Let us be.
In Randy's defense, one can be sarcastic and cynical without being solely bent on making a pretty penny.
This is a very disturbing song, but thats what makes it interesting, and something to think about.
I happen to be a Roman Catholic and think that Randy is not trying to say that God doesn't love us, but is creating a scenario where he didn't.
Anyway you slice it, if your faith is strong enough in your God, you shouldn't fret about thinking about this.
"Were more popular than Jesus now, wonder what will die-out first, rock'n roll or Christianity"-John Lennon
Actually, the absurdity should validate your faith.
